New home for Baby Hassmer

Last night the nursery was finally completed. Not completed in the finished with every thing ready for baby kind of way, more like just done being painted. This is a HUGE step and we are very excited to begin putting together the pieces and parts of Baby Hassmer's nursery and the time has finally come. The crib is here. Not put together, but it's here. The bedding for the crib is in. No mattress yet, but we're on a hunt for that next. We have bookshelves that are ready to be painted and we have also purchased a glider to rock our sweet baby in when he/she arrives. I am so excited about the journey that I wanted to share the pictures from the 3 days of painting. My husband, my hero, took on this project as his contribution (not his only, mind you) to the baby and has done an AMAZING job. The walls are beautiful, his time was well spent and he has created an awesome home for our little one and I'm so proud.
Here are some of the pictures from the past week:

The bottom half of the wall in the nursery had already been painted navy blue and we wanted to change that so two coats of primer was David's first job.

He finished this quickly and was ready to move on to the fun stuff. Can't tell it was even blue!

Because we won't know the sex of the baby until the end of August, although I'm pretty sure I already know, we decided to go with neutral colors because the nursery needed to be completed before David went back to school. Yellow on the top and green on the bottom!

Can you tell he's excited about the finished product? Don't worry, radiator is coming out sometime in September and we'll finish off the bottom of that wall with a new baseboard.

The finished product. The yellow is a little bit more subdued and not as mustard like as it looks here. All in all we are VERY pleased with the way it turned out and can't wait to put the crib, bookcases, rocker and accessories in!

Some quick tummy pictures to follow the last post. This was taken right around 10 weeks at Lyndsay and Dave's wedding. Not showing at this point but the thought was cute.
My wonderful husband took this picture at Va beach when we were there for our babymoon, a honeymoon before the baby, if you will. you can see a little tummy. This was 14 weeks 3 days.

Ahhh the comfort of maternity pants.

A small bump that is steadily growing:)

Again with the tiny bump. Can't wait to get a little bit bigger:) C'mon Baby Hassmer!

Been a while...

Well for those of you who have been following our emails, facebook and phone calls, we are FINALLY back on blog. It's been a busy summer for the Hassmer family filled with exciting ultrasounds, family trips, nursery painting, relaxing and fun. As for a quick update, I'll do the best I can.

On May 8th at 6:30am we learned that we were pregnant with our first sweet baby. He/She is due on January 15th, 2010. We had our first appointment on June 8th and we got to see the peanut up close and in person! Looked like a little rice krispie. No arms, no legs, but a fast steady heartbeat of 170bpm. After this appointment we embarked onto a long few weeks of nausea, exhaustion, lack of appetite, weight loss and a few good black outs in our local grocery store, which caused a bit of concern for our Dr. We saw Dr. Murray on July 6th and got to hear the heartbeat for the first time. Both Mom Hassmer and Mom Shepherd were there for the grand event. Everything checked out and the Dr. made us aware that I needed to change my eating habits. For the next 6 weeks I was to eat every 2 hours in small amounts. This was difficult for the first few weeks but helped.
On July 14th we went to Johnston Willis Hospital for our Nucal Transclucence test, a screening for Downs Syndrome. We got to see the baby on the monitor and it was quite a treat! This is what we saw:
5 small fingers on one hand, some jaw line and a spinal cord! And just in case you're wondering, the small boy looking part at the end is not what you're thinking. That's bone...and there's no bone in the little boy parts:)

This is a picture of the baby facing the camera. You can see two eye sockets, two fingers making a peace sign and a round Buddha belly:)

This is a really great profile picture of the baby. Finally you can see little baby feet crossed in front of the baby at the bottom. I can see a spinal cord and a really HUGE jawline. David likes to call him/her the Joker:)

I'll definitely be keeping this blog up to date as we experience little kicks, hiccups, more family trips, and Dr's Appointments. Thanks for being the people that we love that love us. God has so richly blessed us with a HUGE Christian family and we're so glad that HE has.

Love, Kim, David and Baby H.
