Been a while...

Well for those of you who have been following our emails, facebook and phone calls, we are FINALLY back on blog. It's been a busy summer for the Hassmer family filled with exciting ultrasounds, family trips, nursery painting, relaxing and fun. As for a quick update, I'll do the best I can.

On May 8th at 6:30am we learned that we were pregnant with our first sweet baby. He/She is due on January 15th, 2010. We had our first appointment on June 8th and we got to see the peanut up close and in person! Looked like a little rice krispie. No arms, no legs, but a fast steady heartbeat of 170bpm. After this appointment we embarked onto a long few weeks of nausea, exhaustion, lack of appetite, weight loss and a few good black outs in our local grocery store, which caused a bit of concern for our Dr. We saw Dr. Murray on July 6th and got to hear the heartbeat for the first time. Both Mom Hassmer and Mom Shepherd were there for the grand event. Everything checked out and the Dr. made us aware that I needed to change my eating habits. For the next 6 weeks I was to eat every 2 hours in small amounts. This was difficult for the first few weeks but helped.
On July 14th we went to Johnston Willis Hospital for our Nucal Transclucence test, a screening for Downs Syndrome. We got to see the baby on the monitor and it was quite a treat! This is what we saw:
5 small fingers on one hand, some jaw line and a spinal cord! And just in case you're wondering, the small boy looking part at the end is not what you're thinking. That's bone...and there's no bone in the little boy parts:)

This is a picture of the baby facing the camera. You can see two eye sockets, two fingers making a peace sign and a round Buddha belly:)

This is a really great profile picture of the baby. Finally you can see little baby feet crossed in front of the baby at the bottom. I can see a spinal cord and a really HUGE jawline. David likes to call him/her the Joker:)

I'll definitely be keeping this blog up to date as we experience little kicks, hiccups, more family trips, and Dr's Appointments. Thanks for being the people that we love that love us. God has so richly blessed us with a HUGE Christian family and we're so glad that HE has.

Love, Kim, David and Baby H.
